Who's Stan? Not sure.. But, nonetheless, this is the plan for my learning project. I want to try new DIY ideas and improve upon my existing skills. I have never ever considered myself creative, but I have some experience with DIYs already, thanks to being in quarantine. This podcast just solidifies the lies we often tell ourselves - "oh I'm just not creative!" However, I've done some fashion DIYs and home DIYs as well. I love decorating, organizing and fashion, so this project idea seems to be a perfect fit while doubling as a way to spark some creativity during a busy time of the year. Some of my DIYs are shown in this post, such as the plant ladder, juke tray handles, a placemat, beaded garlands, cutting clothing, etc.
I'll be looking at YouTube, Pinterest, Google search engine and Instagram for inspiration and steps. I made a DIY Pinterest board in high school because the finished products are aesthetically pleasing - that's about the only reason why - but now it may come in handy! Back then, my Pinterest mostly included clothing DIYs (tye dye, distressing items), but now focuses mostly on home decor or upcycling. I find that Pinterest gives me a lot of ideas, but less instructions. After 7 min-... hours of searching for DIYs, it can become very overwhelming. So, to use Pinterest, I need to have some direction to guide me. With a rough idea in mind, I can focus my direction. This podcast also suggests to look back at Pinterest to refresh your mind of what you once wanted to make.
Find out how other websites may help me in future blog posts once I dive in.
This project also something that I can do with a friend, and have discussed doing so, so that may make an appearance in my blog posts as well.
With a quick Google search, I've found some new ideas that I can consider trying, as shown below. When I clicked on the hyperlinked words in the screenshot, I was introduced to even more ideas.
My plan to tackle this learning project is to find 3-5 projects that I feel are reasonable for my schedule and that interest me. Therefore, the schedule in which I complete DIY projects may be scattered depending on what's going on outside of this course. They'll fit into the categories that I previously mentioned; fashion, home decor and organization.
My first new DIY will be to dye clothing, inspired by a sustainable Canadian fashion brand. The brand's highlight, "Home Dye" will be the process I use. I already have 4 boxes of fabric dye. I won't be purchasing other supplies until I know which DIY(s) I will be focusing on.
I hope you'll check back to see how my learning is progressing!
